Night One: what the demo is

A 15 to 25 minute slice that plays the operation the intro teases, from the Drifter's chair.

The first playable thing you’ll get is a free demo called Night One. It’s short on purpose. We’d rather hand you twenty minutes that hold up to the trailer than two hours that don’t.

You start in the lair, at the exact frame where the intro ends. From there you play one operation.

  1. Take the contract. Pick a tape, read your messages, accept the MERC job.
  2. Recon. Research the target, scan 10.41.7.18, find the facilities ticket workflow and who approves it at night.
  3. Write the pretext. You compose Ticket #18427 yourself. The receptionist scores it on trust, authority, urgency and fit, and you watch her decide on CCTV.
  4. Walk in. You go in as a facilities worker. Badge the reader, walk like you belong, plant an implant on a switch port.
  5. Get the shell. From your desk, through the implant: ssh, privilege escalation, the data.
  6. Survive the defender. They isolate your host mid-operation. Pivot and finish before lockout.

It ends with the evidence of what you did, hashed into your Hash Drift.

The demo leaves out a lot on purpose: multiplayer, the open city, life simulation, voice acting, and anything on a blockchain. Those belong to the full game. Two playable spaces, the lair and a corridor with a server room, are enough to show every pillar once.

It’s coming to Steam for Windows, Linux and macOS. We’ll post the date when we’re sure of it.
